Performances for Idaho Dance Theatre‘s Winter Performance are receding into the past, but the experience of this incredible commission and collaboration linger on.
IDT Artistic Director Marla Hansen’s beautiful choreography was such a vision to behold, as was Carl Rowe‘s paintings and costume design by Darin Pufall.
I would like to thank these great artists, plus the wonderful musicians from the Boise State University Department of Music who performed this work over the course of 4 days. They are soprano Laura Rushing-Raynes, Pianist Barton Mareau (who stepped in at the last minute and nailed everything), cellist Brian Hodges and saxophonist Rodney Zueroveste.
After the final curtain fell, a kind of sadness set in for me. But quickly, this premiere started to lead to other opportunities! (More on this as details emerge.) Once again I am excited about new collaborative works coming up, and once again I am honored to be able to work with some of Boise’s collection of world-class artists we are so fortunate to host.
It is as nerve-wracking as it is exhilarating to debut a significant work involving so many forces of talent, but the audience and critical reception of “Now We Are Here” has inspired confidence to try more of these multi-dimensional works in the future.
